A really rare and special piece: an Epiphone Les Paul Goldtop from 2004 – built in Korea – made for the 30th anniversary of the legendary Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. And yes: this guitar is a true collector’s item with soul and character!
The most striking feature is definitely the elaborate inlay in the rosewood fingerboard with the band name “Lynyrd Skynyrd” fully spelled out. On the back, a 30th Anniversary logo has been lacquered in – looks awesome and is absolutely rare! The Goldtop itself is classic and classy, the overall look is coherent and has something special about it.
This lady plays wonderfully and sounds really fat – not least because of the high-quality modifications:
• Gibson BurstBucker Pro pickups – neck and bridge – they sing, they sizzle, and deliver the full Les Paul feel with character (new price approx. €300)
• Gotoh stopbar tailpiece – stable tuning and more sustain (new price approx. €50)
• New electronics – better pots, switch, caps – simply done thoughtfully (new price approx. €80)
• Schaller Original G-Series tuners (new price approx. €70)
We did our usual fretwork and of course set it up properly. Playing comfort is top-notch, and with these components it’s absolutely on a G.-level! The neck is more of a flat ’60s shape.
On the back there are a few superficial scratches, but nothing deep – the front is all fine! Very little play wear; the guitar was obviously admired more than played.
Includes the original Epiphone case (new price approx. €150) – a nice, sturdy one!
