Description **
This Paula is a real eye-catcher and, at the same time, an honest, modified workhorse — in beautiful Cherry Sunburst it looks like it just came out of the egg. The neck has a comfortable medium 60s-style C shape and plays buttery smooth.
The hardware is original chrome, but it has been sensibly upgraded:
The pickups are gold Gibson 498s, the bridge has been replaced with a high-quality Schaller roller bridge, and the stop tailpiece was upgraded as well. The volume pots have been replaced, and the tone controls have push/pull pots installed (with no function, since the Gibsons are not splittable).
Sonically, the 498s deliver a bit more definition and punch — especially with gain you can clearly hear the difference. The neck sits perfectly in the hand, the feel is silky smooth and immediate. And the sound? Exactly how a good Paula should sound: fat, warm, with great sustain and a singing note that instantly puts a grin on your face.
On the back there are one or two small dings and dents, near the strap button there’s a small chip in the finish, and on the top you’ll find only minimal dents — all honest, nothing crazy. A great Les Paul with character and heart.
