Description **
A very rare baby in excellent condition – the Epiphone SG G-400 Custom, known at Gibson in the 60s as the Les Paul Custom with Maestro tremolo. This one is the Epiphone reissue from 2007, made at the Unsung factory in Korea – a model that many collectors are specifically looking for today. In 2026, Epiphone reissued this guitar again.
Playing it takes a little getting used to because of the middle pickup, as you can easily touch it with the pick. We lowered the middle pickup slightly so that no marks would appear during testing. Sound-wise, however, the 3-pickup layout is absolutely worth it, because the individual volume controls allow the middle pickup to be blended in continuously – very flexible and anything but standard.
Here is the original text from the Epiphone catalog:
“G-400 Custom – Authorized by Gibson USA
We've taken this 3-pickup monster and given it even more ‘bite’ with individual bridge, middle and neck pickup volume controls to allow for infinite blending combinations!”
And yes – “monster” fits. Once you play it, you immediately know what they meant. It sounds detailed, powerful and has plenty of bite. A rock machine with style.
The medium C neck sits solidly in the hand. The cream-colored fingerboard binding and gold hardware give it that classic Custom look – classy, but not overly polished.
It has one small finish chip on the lower body, but overall it is in very, very good condition. We leveled and polished the frets and gave it a proper setup – now it plays clean, direct and very comfortably.
