Epiphone SG Modern Figured Trans Black Fade is a versatile, modern SG with a strong sound and a very comfortable feel. Beautifully made, perfectly set up and ready for everything between clean, crunch and rock.
This truly elegant SG is in like-new condition and, in our opinion, a very versatile guitar. It is well balanced and not quite as neck-heavy as many classic SGs.
The workmanship is on a high level. The beautifully shaped neck is inspired by a 60s style, but it is not a classic Slim Taper. It has a little more substance, while still being clearly slimmer than a 50s profile – very comfortable and well balanced.
The neck was professionally satin-finished and then polished again. This creates a feel somewhere between glossy and satin – very pleasant and “fast” in the hand.
The ebony fingerboard not only looks great, but also feels appropriately high-quality.
The factory fretwork was okay, but not perfect – so we levelled and polished the frets and gave the guitar a complete setup. Now it plays cleanly, directly and very comfortably.
The electronics on this SG deserve special mention:
It is equipped with a ProBucker-2 in the neck position and a ProBucker-3 at the bridge – classic humbucker sound with plenty of punch. Via push/pull, the pickups can be split, and there is also an out-of-phase option for the neck pickup. This makes it much more versatile than a classic SG.
The package is rounded off by Grover Locking Rotomatic tuners with 18:1 ratio and high-quality CTS pots.
