Description **
Squier 40th Anniversary Telecaster Vintage Edition is far more than just a “better Affinity”. Beautifully finished, visually distinctive and, after our work, a really strong Tele with character, vintage vibe and an individual touch.
First, here is the original PR text from Squier:
“The first instruments bearing the Squier name were launched in 1982. The idea was to offer genuine Fender® design at affordable prices for beginners. 40 years later, the entry-level brand is still extremely popular. We celebrate this with the Squier 40th Anniversary Collection. It includes special edition versions of the Telecaster®, Stratocaster®, Jazzmaster®, Precision Bass® and Jazz Bass® models. All are available as Gold Edition and Vintage Edition. The Squier® 40th Anniversary Telecaster® Vintage Edition has a lot of soul. A tribute instrument with classic features for Squier fans and players who love a refined retro vibe: aged-look chrome hardware, anodized aluminium pickguard, maple neck with vintage tint, engraved anniversary neck plate and satin finish on neck and body. This Tele® is a homage to the Squier catalog and its many previous generations. Performance is also on point. The Tele has a slim, player-friendly C-profile neck, vintage-style tuners and a string-through-body bridge with three saddles. The Fender-designed Alnico 5 single coils deliver that typical snappy Tele tone.”
This one was somewhat unprofessionally modified by the previous owner. The body was sanded down for an armrest contour and somehow painted over. We reworked the whole thing properly: the bevel was cleanly shaped and clear-coated, so the beautiful wood now remains visible. The top was also refinished once again with a matte clear coat. Just have a look at the pictures – this has definitely turned it into a one-off piece.
The Nyatoh body, which is somewhat similar to mahogany, gives it a slightly fuller feel and a different resonance than typical lightweight Tele constructions. When you remove the neck and pickguard, you quickly notice: this does not feel like normal mass production. No stamps, no stickers in the body – somehow special.
The matte finish looks very classy, and the factory aging of the hardware was also slightly reworked by the previous owner – unusual, but actually quite fitting. Together with the black binding and black anodized aluminium pickguard, it creates a distinctive vintage look.
When you pick it up, the pleasant satin finish of the neck is immediately noticeable. At approx. 3.53 kg, it is not a lightweight, but it sits solidly and well balanced on the strap.
A DiMarzio Twang King DP172CU is installed in the neck position, combined with the original Fender Designed Alnico single coil at the bridge. The DiMarzio gives the guitar even more open, snappy Tele tone and is a real upgrade.
The factory fretwork, however, was not really usable. So we carefully leveled, recrowned and polished the frets. Now it plays clean, direct and much better than in its original condition.
This Tele is really fun to play – and in the end, the armrest is actually pretty cool, even if it may seem a little unusual at first.
