With this Harley Benton TE-30 BE you notice right away: not a lightweight! The body has a bit of mass – but that also means substance in the tone. The neck feels really good; I’d say it’s a solid medium C profile, with a pleasantly satin finish that almost feels a bit like those F- models from the 2000s.
Unplugged it sounds clear and defined – there’s some real resonance going on. When I got it, it was practically like new, but: the fretwork was terrible. The neck itself was straight, but the fret heights… oof, they were all over the place. We did the full program: leveled the frets, recrowned them, and polished them. Now it glides like a good US Tele – a huge difference in playing feel!
The tuners are okay and do their job. Through an amp it sounds like a Tele should: a bit wiry, nicely clear, maybe a little thin – but absolutely usable for home use and as a beginner or second Tele. If you want, you can always drop in better pickups later – there’s definitely potential.
Important: this is the standard HB “cash register” model from the big T – but after our intensive treatment it’s now a really good, everyday Tele that’s fun to play and doesn’t have to hide. And best of all: it’s fully ready to play with .009 strings on it.
