Description **
Yes, Pearl didn’t just make drums – in the 1970s, the company also produced a wide range of other musical instruments, including guitars. This one is a classic Les Paul copy from the early pre-lawsuit era, most likely made in Japan or Taiwan. Unfortunately, its exact origin can no longer be determined with certainty today.
It is in excellent condition and shows surprisingly few signs of use for its age. Especially with these early budget guitars, that has become quite rare.
The body is slightly thinner than on an original Les Paul. It is made from laminated wood, which, together with the solid construction, gives the guitar a substantial weight of approx. 4.2 kg.
The neck is on the chunkier side and has something of a ’60s-style profile. With a neck thickness of approx. 21.7 mm at the 1st fret and 25.3 mm at the 12th fret, it feels nicely substantial in the hand.
Tonally, it does a good job and is also very comfortable to play. We deliberately kept it in its original condition and did not carry out any fret or nut work. Only a basic setup was done. Apart from that, we wanted to change as little as possible in order to preserve the authentic character of this early guitar.
A beautiful collector’s piece for fans of the early pre-lawsuit era – in a condition that is increasingly hard to find today.
