So, here’s that “highly praised all over the internet” thing. The PRS SE DGT – the guitar everyone supposedly needs, just as good as the USA models… and so on.
So let’s take it out of the gig bag. It’s not the lightest, but the neck feels pretty good. Not thin, but not a baseball bat either. It’s supposed to be exactly like Mr. Grissom’s first PRS that Paul built for him back then. Whether it truly turned out that way – only he can judge that himself.
PRS sure knows how to do marketing, though – top level, no doubt…
Anyway: this exact one here is – unlike other Indonesian SEs I’ve had in my hands so far – actually really well built.
The gold finish is great, and the back as well as the neck feel fantastic and look top-notch.
The glossy finished neck is – as usual with PRS – very comfortable to play and doesn’t get greasy or sticky.
The electronics are a bit different here: special pickups and a well thought-out, clever wiring. Especially the split options are really well done. Not a Strat sound, but definitely something with character.

But: not everything that glitters is gold. The frets – like on many Indonesian models – weren’t leveled well. At least they were nicely polished. But at this price, it really should be right out of the box these days. Could be an outlier, sure, but compared to the older Korea models, this is nothing special.
I’ve leveled the frets properly now – and now it’s a blast to rip on.
