Epiphone ES-339 Pro P90 – Ebony (Black) – 04/2014

Here we have an Epiphone ES-339 Pro P90 from April 2014 – in the rare Ebony (EB) finish. We always keep an eye out for these P90 models because they’re simply something special. So far, we’ve only ever come across 2014 examples with P90s. Later years do exist, but those are almost always in Pelham Blue.

The 339 is perfect for anyone who loves the feel of a semi-hollow but finds a 335 a bit too bulky. Body-wise, it’s only slightly larger than a Les Paul and has identical dimensions to a Casino Coupe – making it super comfortable to hold. Weight? Usually just over 3 kg – which is a blessing for your back on stage.

The neck is nice and slim, sits beautifully in the hand, and the fingerboard feels just a touch wider than a Les Paul with a 60s neck. Stock fretwork isn’t exactly outstanding – which is why we’ve done some serious work here: levelled, polished, and set up perfectly. Now it plays exactly as it should.

The Epiphone P90R PRO & P90T PRO pickups are fantastic – powerful, open, and with just the right amount of character. In our opinion, there’s no reason to swap them out. The electronics are fairly standard, but absolutely functional.

Sound-wise? A rock machine with a blues soul that also shines in jazz. 🎶
