PRS SE DGT – David Grissom Signature gold
So, the one that’s praised all over the internet. The one guitar everyone “needs,” just as good as the USA models… and so on.
Alright, let’s take it out of the case. It’s not the lightest guitar in the world, but the neck feels pretty good — not thin, but definitely not a baseball bat either. Supposedly, it’s modeled exactly after the first PRS Paul built for Mr. Grissom. Whether they really nailed that… well, only he could say. 😉
One thing’s for sure: PRS knows how to do marketing — top-shelf stuff.
And this one, unlike some other Indonesian SEs I’ve handled, is actually put together really well.
The gold finish is gorgeous, and the back and neck also look and feel fantastic. The glossy-finished neck, as is typical for PRS, plays nicely without getting sticky or gummy.
The electronics here are a bit different: special pickups and a clever, well-thought-out wiring scheme. The coil-split options are especially well done — not quite Strat-like, but definitely something with character.
As always, you can find plenty of tests and reviews on YouTube.
But… not all that glitters is gold. The frets — like on many Indonesian models — weren’t well-leveled from the factory. At least they were nicely polished. Still, at this price point, that really should be right straight out of the box. Could be a one-off, but compared to the earlier Korean models, there’s nothing particularly special here.
I’ve leveled the frets properly now — and now it’s a real joy to rock out with.
Beautiful piece, near-mint condition, strung with 009–042s.
